Elite, Heat, Numbers

Ok after reading countless threads about overheating and people wondering about the Elite and whether it will have similar problems I decided to try a simple test.  Now keep in mind I dont want to void the warranty so I will not be opening the case to perform this test. The conditions, my son watched the Cars DVD.  I followed this by playing the Area 51 demo, then Halo3 Beta for an hour, followed by 2 hours on Crackdown.  So approx. 5.5 hours of uptime for the 360.I run Nitro powered RC Cars so I own a temprature gun that is designed to take surface temps withing a few degrees of actual.  I decided to use this to check whether my 360 might be having heat issues (I dont think it is, just wondering based on all of the questions people seem to have).Last thing, environment, I keep my house around 75deg, my 360 is stored in an open tv stand under my Samsung.Power supply temprature: 86deg
Top of XBox over most of the components: 84deg
Side of XBox: 76degDoesnt look like there are any heat problems that I can see.  I have read people saying their consoles are hot to the touch, mine is cool to the touch, I was suprised there was an almost 10deg difference in the surface temprature. Now obviously it would be much more accurate to open the case and take a temprature inside, but not happening on my Elite :).Elite, Heat, Numbers
I agree with the heat issues for the 360 in general.  They do kick out a ton of heat from the back though but my first 360 never once overheated on me and i would play for long sessions of games only.  I pulled apart my now basically dead 360 and the heatsyncs get quite warm but were never too hot to touch even after playing for a while.  Based on my experience trying to get my 360 running i think i'm leaning more towards the cpu/gpu solder issue.  My 360 looks fine no apparent broken pieces, burnt spots, leaking capacitors, etc..  Guess i will need to try resoldering to see.. Elite, Heat, Numbers
I am pretty sure that the Elite has the same size CPU and the same fans that are in the Premium and Cores, so if your other 360 you had was any hotter than your Elite, it was probably faulty.
Just checked and the rear heat output is much higher.I am getting 108deg out of the rear, 360 still running since earlier post, son is watching another movie right now.

I was wondering what the mobo looks like.

Looks like I'll be upgrading to an elite when my prp is about to expire ;) Nice find.
my elite got pretty warm after a hour of gameing so i got scared and returned it.. but my 360 pro system i just bought is worse then my elite that thing gets hot after a hour of play..im taking this pro 360 back when they get more elites in stock
I picked up a fan stand for 10 bucks... the base of the 360 is noticibly cooler at least =P

im keeping this one for a few months coz i got 90 days to keep it be4 i cant return it no questions asked. by then the new 65m chip should be out.
