HD DVD question...

Does the HD DVD drive improves the picture quality of standard DVD ? My position is this i got a DVD player connected to my HDTV via component cables and i want to know if its worth getting the HD DVD drive for the 360, and i'm asking about how's the quality of the standard DVD because thanks to the ''BLURAY vs HD DVD war'' not every movie comes out in HD format. Hope you get my point, thanks in advance for the answer. HD DVD question...
Well just standard dvds your 360 will upscale to the res you're watching at so you may see a minute diff.  So if you want to watch regular DVDs you don't need the HD-DVD drive.  If you want to watch HD movies though then yes it's a good deal because they look quite nice.HD DVD question...
Oh and one more thing to note.  Recent movies from the past couple years have excellent picture quality compared to early DVDs.  So if you don't want to pick a side in the HD war or even get stuck buying both formats DVDs are still look excellent.
I dont think its worth getting, as I passed up on the HD DVD drive and opted to get a PS3.  Now before biased people get to you, I will give my non-biased opinion. If it helps, I like 360 more so Im not just trying to hype up PS3. If you can go the Blu-ray route, it is much better. The PS3 upscales your normal dvds and yes it makes them look better. I dont know if the HD DVD player does, but even if it does its not worth it and heres why. I also passed on the HDVD because Blu-ray will most likely beat it out, as most new movie releases I see on TV are Blu-ray and regular dvd. aside from King kong and the Matrix triligy I have never seen any ads or HD DVD.When I got to best buy or a place that carries both, blu ray has a much larger selection. From what I ve seen Blu ray has much more support and tech wise its better. I would pass up on the HD DVD route because it will most likely fail. No offense to 360 or hd dvd owners, as I stated I like 360 and Im just stating my opinion based on the facts that I've seen. Even if you cant afford to go blu ray right now, I would hold of because I dont see HD DVD having longevity and as I said you dont get many movie options with HD DVD.
I guess it depends where you go shopping.. The places i've been typically have either about equal amounts or more HD-DVDs...Could just be the companies where i am.  For example i grabbed the bestbuy flyer when they come out and to my surprise the PS3 was not listed anywhere.  They had the 360 and wii but no sign of the PS3.  So im guessing there is some bias as to who is working for who for the war.  Also whenever i walk into bestbuy they always have displays for HD-DVDs...im sensing a little bias with them.I'd say hold off on the HD format until there is a more decisive victor.  I think right now it is too early to tell but perhaps in a year sales figures will shed a light as to who is beating who.  I'm hoping they decide it sooner rather than later because i'd like to get some HD movies. But in all honesty recent dvds have excellent quality and if you're using the 360 to play movies it will upscale them so you get some boost.  If you're on the fence for an HD format i would say stick with DVDs for the time being.
You will also need the VGA cable to upscale DVDs.
